Prison Diet is the musical and artistic culmination of one band's metamorphosis from local club favorites, to major label recording artists, to international touring act, to full-scale music and sound design company.
Lush, experimental, indie-pop act Manic was formed in Los Angeles in 2004 through the collective vision of vocalist/ keyboardist Paul Gross, guitarist/programmer Zane Smythe, bassist/multi-instrumentalist Nate Perry & percussionist Ryan Green. After some well received local shows and a self-released LP, the band was quickly signed to Suretone/Interscope Records. The band would go on to release two critically acclaimed EP's, 'Floorboards' and 'Another New Home', accompanied by extensive national and international touring in support, which included two Club NME tours throughout the UK along with some well received stints at Austin's South by Southwest Music Festival. Acting as co-producers on their first release and later, producers and engineers on their second, Manic discovered a penchant and natural talent for production and engineering.
With music that is broad and cinematic in scope, it was a natural step for the group to parlay their experience and studio savvy into building a state of the art recording studio and 'one-stop shop' music and audio post-production facility. In an effort to devote all of their energy to this new endeavor, Manic left their label in late 07'.
At Prison Diet, we are the composer, engineer, producer, mixer and session musicians all rolled into one. Performing all of these services onsite allows us to skip the middleman so that we can deliver cutting-edge, sonically superior audio solutions for a wide range of media including commercials, film and video productions, video games, mobile products, television shows and presentations; under any deadline.
